RIEPILOGO. RIPASSO E APPROFONDIMENTI


To Be

Il verbo ‘essere’ in inglese si traduce con “To Be“.

Il verbo To Be e’ anche un ausiliare che concorre 

alla formazione di molti tempi verbali. Possiamo 

distinguere 4 forme per studiare il verbo essere:

la forma affermativa,

la forma negativa,

la forma interrogativa,

e la forma interrogativa-negativa.

Abbiamo inoltre per ognuna per alcune di queste forme delle forme contratte (da considerarsi semplicemente delle abbreviazioni) mentre per i tempi verbali dobbiamo semplicemente imparare il
present simple, il past simple, ed il participio passato “been” 

Il verbo essere al presente


Il verbo essere al presente cambia solo la prima e la terza persona singolare (‘am‘, e ‘is‘, tutte le altre sono ‘are‘).

Ecco una tabella riassuntiva di tutte le forme del verbo essere al presente ( se non sai a che persona grammaticale si riferisce ogni singola riga studia  bene i pronomi personali)

La forma affermativa del verbo essere si costruisce con 
soggetto + verbo essere (be)

I am = io sono
you are = tu sei
he is = egli /  lui è  
she is = ella / lei è
it is  =  esso / essa è
we are  = noi siamo
you are = voi siete
they are = essi / loro sono

La forma negativa del verbo essere si costruisce con soggetto + verbo essere + not

I am not = io non sono
you are not =tu non sei
he is not = egli/ lui non è
she is not = ella/ lei non è
it is not = esso/essa non è
we are not = noi non siamo
you are not = voi non siete
they are not = loro non sono

Il Verbo Passato

Il passato semplice inglese traduce tre diversi tempi verbali italiani:

il passato remoto (io andai),

l'imperfetto (andavo) 

e il passato prossimo con azioni ormai concluse, 

con espressioni tipo ieri.


Il passato semplice del verbo essere
 forma affermativa

si costruisce con:

soggetto + was per la prima e la terza persona singolare
soggetto + were per tutte le altre persone.

I was = io ero/fui, sono stato

You were = tu eri / fosti, sei stato 

He was = lui era / fu

She was = lei era / fu

It  was = esso / essa era / fu

We were = noi eravamo / fummo

You were = voi eravate / foste

They were = loro erano / furono



Esempi:

We were tired = Eravamo stanchi

I was scared = Ero spaventato

You were my best friend = Eri il mio migliore 

                                                 amico

It was full = Era pieno

She was angry = Lei era arrabbiata




Il passato semplice del verbo essere 
Forma negativa

La forma negativa del passato semplice del verbo essere si costruisce con

soggetto + was / were + not

I was not = Io non ero / fui, non sono stato

You were not = tu non eri / fosti, non sei stato

He was not = lui non era / fu, non è stato

She was not = esso / essa non era / fu, non è stato

It was not = esso/ essa non era / fu, non è stato

We were not = eravamo / fummo, non siamo stati

They were not = erano / furono, non sono stati

Esempi:

It was not full = Non era pieno

You were not sad = Non eri triste

He was not good at playing the guitar = Non era 

                                       bravo a suonare la chitarra

They were not tired = Non erano stanchi



Le forme contratte del passato semplice del verbo essere sono:

I wasn't

You weren't

He wasn't

She wasn't

It wasn't

we weren't

You weren't

They weren't


Esempi:

We weren't scared = Non avevamo paura

I wasn't tired = Non ero stanco

She wasn't angry = Non era arrabbiata

We weren't happy = Non eravamo felici

It wasn't cloudy = Non era nuvoloso.




Il passato semplice del verbo essere 

Forma interrogativa

La forma interrogativa del passato semplice del

verbo essere si costruisce con:

was/ were + soggetto

Was I...?

were you...?

was he...?

was she ...?

was it ...?

were we...?

were you...?

were they...?


Esempi:

Was I late? = Ero in ritardo?

Were they scared?= Erano spaventati?

Was it your cat?= Era il tuo gatto?

Were you good at Geography?= Eri bravo in 

                                            geografia?




N.B

Ci sono alcune espressioni comunissime con be che si rendono in italiano con avere o fare invece di essere.


1.I'm hungry = Ho fame

2.They're thirsty = Hanno sete

3.I'm hot = Ho caldo

4.It's hot = Fa caldo

5.She's in a hurry = Ha fretta

6.He's ten years old = Ha dieci anni

Note

Nella frase n.4, It's hot, il pronome it si può riferire 

ad una cosa ( una cucina, un termosifone) o al

 tempo.
Nella frase n.6, invece di He's ten years old, si può 

dire semplicemente, He's ten.


Espressioni con be

Are you hungry? =Ha fame?

Are you thirsty? =Ha sete?

Yes, I am = Sì.

I'm hungry = Ho fame.

I'm thirsty = Ho sete.

I'm in a hurry =Ho fretta.

I'm cold = Ho freddo.

I'm cold = Ho freddo.

I'm hot = Ho caldo.

I'm warm = ho caldo.

It's cool = Fa fresco.


N.B

Warm significa caldo, ma meno caldo di hot, come cool significa meno freddo di cold.


Il presente progressivo . risposte brevi

Le risposti brevi si costruiscono con:

Yes + soggetto + am / are / is

No + soggetto + 'm not / aren't / isn't

Esempi

Are you swimming? = Stai nuotando? 

Yes, I am = Sì.

Are you swimming? = Stai nuotando?

No, I'm not. = No.

Is she eating? Sta mangiando? 

Yes, she is. = Sì.

Is he eating? Sta mangiando? 

No, he is'nt. = No.

Are they reading? = Stanno leggendo?

Yes, they are = Sì.

Are they reading? =  Stanno leggendo?

No, they aren't = No.
